FILOXENIA

FILOXENIA is an NGO founded in 1995. It runs a Youth Center and an Environmental Centre in the rural area of Corinthia. It has the aim to support the development of rural areas through the implementation of youth, cultural and environmental projects.
Filoxenia has facilitated the building of youth structures and voluntarism in the whole county of Corinthia.

It is situated in the semi-mountainous village of Kryoneri, county of Corinthia. It works on educational, environmental, local development and intercultural projects. Its target groups are: children, youth and local community.

It participates to the Youth & Youth in Action program from 1995, and to the Leonardo Da Vinci program from 1997.

Environmental Activities:

-          Footpaths:

• renovation of traditional stone footpaths
• creation of new environmental footpaths
• marking, mapping of hiking and mountain biking footpaths

-          Intervention:

• Cleaning up campaign in Kryoneri, Stymphalia and Corinth in cooperation with National and European organisation (Legambiente, Network Med-Sos, The Greek Society for the Nature Protection)
• Publishing of articles in the local and regional press against wrong environmental behaviours
• Environmental lobbying towards local authorities
• Environmental workshops for pupils

-          Information:

• Creation of an environmental exhibition in cooperation with the Youth Council of Stymphalia
• Creation of video spots about the ecosystem of the surroundings
• Creation of a website about Stymphalia region http://stymphalia.knk.gr/index_en.html
• Organisation of information days in surrounding villages about organic farming
• Participation to the annual International Environmental Day; organized by the Municipality
