The Duke of Edinburgh´s Award

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a voluntary self-improvement programme supporting personality development and leisure-time activities for young people between the ages of 14 and 25.
Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II, established the Programme in 1956.

The Programme's principles consist of positive direction and sensitive motivation for young people who, within a given set of rules, pursue their own personal goals as set by themselves.
There are four parts to the Programme; the young person learns or improves a recreational sport, develops his/her practical skills, assists others less fortunate and undertakes a joint expedition as part of a team.
